I’m really happy to finally share the news about the release of KAKUHAN’s second album, “KAK.”
It’s been three years since the release of our previous album Metal Zone, and during that time we’ve performed in many different countries. The tracks on this album were recorded across a wide span of time—from pieces recorded shortly after Metal Zone came out, to others shaped and recorded through touring—so there’s a lot of variety in the material.
Recording and mixing were done by Hino, mastering by Rashad Becker as with the previous album, and the cover artwork is an original piece created especially for this release by the artist Yasuko Hirano.
The title “KAK” comes from the first three letters of the unit’s name, making it something like a “half” self-titled album. At the same time, the word KAK hints at several different Japanese characters: 角 (edge), 核 (core), 拡 (expansion), 攪 (stirring), 欠 (lack).
It’s about being an edge of a certain expression or form, while also being its core. About expanding those ideas outward, and stirring them—almost like a hand mixing things together. And within the sound itself, there’s also the sense of lack: a pictographic image of a person with their mouth open, like a hole that’s pulling something inward.
These tracks on the album are shaped by images that grow out of these characters. Sometimes sharp and angular, sometimes carrying depth and hollowness. The different gaps and contrasts between sounds and pieces create a sense of flow and motion over time, expanding the listener’s imagination while also pulling them down into it—like falling into a hole.
I hope you’ll step into this “hole” and listen. Personally, I really like the journey: moving through the slightly challenging A-side, opening out into the B-side, and then sinking into the final track.

KAKUHANのセカンドアルバム「KAK」のリリースのお知らせがようやくできることをとても嬉しく思います。前作Metal Zoneのリリースから３年が経過し、その間に様々な国でパフォーマンスをしてきました。収録されている楽曲は前作のリリース後すぐに録音されたものからツアーを経て録音されたものもありかなりバリエーションに富んでいます。録音、ミックスは日野さん、マスタリングは前作同様にRashad Becker。そしてジャケットはアーティスト・平野泰子（Yasuko Hirano）さんによる書き下ろしです。
セカンドアルバムのタイトルである「KAK」はユニット名の冒頭の3文字であり、ある意味で"半分ほど"セルフタイトル的な作品であると同時に、この「KAK」という言葉は「角」「核」「拡」「攪」「欠」という文字に変換されることを暗示しています。
ある表現や形式の「角（＝エッジ）」でありながら、その「核（＝コア）」であること。それらを「拡（＝広い場所へもたらす）」すると同時に「攪（＝字形として手でかき混ぜるような所作）」であること。また、その音像には「欠（象形として"人が口を開いている"状態）」＝「何かしら吸い込まれていく穴のようなイメージ」が付随すること。
アルバムに収録されている楽曲は、これらの文字から派生するイメージをもとに、ときに鋭角でありながら、深さや窪みをはらむような音が刻まれています。そしてその音や曲の間にある様々な「差異」「落差」は、時間の中に「流れ／運動」を生み出し、私たちのイメージを拡げ、また同時に深くその（イメージの）中に聴き手を落とし込む「穴」のようにも存在します。
是非この「穴の中」に入ってみてください。個人的には少し難解なA面を経て、B面への拡がり、そして最後の曲に沈んでいく流れが気に入っています。
